Three Year Anniversary of the War on Ukraine

Washington, D.C. – February 22, 2025

Today, thousands of demonstrators gathered on the National Mall, assembling in front of the Lincoln Memorial in a powerful display of solidarity with the people of Ukraine. The rally marked the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a grim milestone that has come to symbolize both Ukraine’s resilience and the enduring urgency of global support for its sovereignty.

The demonstration unfolded just days after a controversial and widely condemned televised event from the Oval Office, during which President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and the boyfriend of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene launched a pointed and caustic tirade against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The remarks, which mocked Zelensky’s leadership and questioned continued U.S. support for Ukraine, were met with immediate backlash across political and international circles.

Despite cold February winds sweeping across the Mall, demonstrators came in droves, many draped in blue and yellow Ukrainian flags, holding signs that read “Slava Ukraini,” “We Stand with Ukraine,” and “Dictators Fear Democracy.” The mood was both somber and spirited, with chants echoing up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and toward the reflecting pool.

Speakers included Ukrainian-American activists, former diplomats, war veterans, and local faith leaders.
